Musical.ly is one of the most popular new video creation apps, particularly among young Millennial and Generation Z users. The app allows users to create and share short-form performance videos, the most popular of which are lip-syncing videos reminiscent of 2014’s breakout app Dubsmash. As a 3-year-old company, Musical.ly is now a partner with Apple Music and has raised $100M adding 100M users in 2016.
Called Musers, creators on Musical.ly are typically very young and are experts at leveraging their popularity on one platform to build large followings on others like Twitter, Facebook, Snapchat, and Instagram.
Instagram, in particular, is a natural fit for Musical.ly stars because it allows them to share content in a number of different forms, including short videos sometimes cross-posted from Musical.ly. Building a presence on Instagram also provides an opportunity for these influencers to tap into the platform’s larger user base (now over 700 million users) and expand their followings beyond the relatively narrow Musical.ly demographic. Here are the top Musical.ly stars who are posting on and building their social media empires through Instagram.
Musers Lisa and Lena are twins from Stuttgart, Germany who have nearly 19 million followers on Musical.ly. They’ve built massive followings across social media platforms, most notably Instagram, and use their Musical.ly following and content to strengthen their presence on and off social media.
After making his debut on the now-defunct Vine in 2011, Rolf Jacob Sartorius built a massive social following, including a Musical.ly account with over 16 million followers. He’s used his cross-platform popularity to launch his music career and released his debut EP, The Last Text, in early 2017.
Sixteen-year-old Ariel Martin has almost 19 million followers on Musical.ly and won a Teen Choice Award for Choice Muser in 2016. She has millions of followers across her Instagram and other social channels and started #Arielmovement, which is aimed at combating bullying.

Loren Gray Beech has over 15 million followers on Musical.ly and was nominated for a Teen Choice Award. Though she’s best known for her musical.ly content, she’s also active on Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter, where she posts updates on her life and tour to millions of followers.

Fourteen-year-old Musical.ly star Johnny Orlando’s journey started with a YouTube cover. In the six years since then, he’s built a fan base of millions, and posts regularly to his 5 million fans on musical.ly and over 3 million fans on Instagram. He’s embarked upon a headlining tour in 2017.

Kristen Hancher is a 17-year-old influencer with nearly 15 million followers on Musical.ly and over 3 million followers on Instagram. Hancher’s teamed up with other creators and created videos that highlight important issues. She was nominated for a Teen Choice Award for Choice Muser in 2016.

Twelve-year-old gymnast and social media star Annie LeBlanc has nearly 8.5 million fans on Musical.ly and regularly posts updates to her nearly 3 million followers on Instagram. A part of popular YouTube family the Bratayleys, Annie’s spent much of her young life as a social media star.
Savannah Soutas’s social media presence is family oriented and often features her daughter, Everleigh, and partner and fellow influencer, Cole LaBrant. She has nearly 8 million fans on Musical.ly and shares her life with her 1.5 million followers on Instagram.

Brown is also a part of the DigiTour, featuring Triska, Loren Gray, and others.
Best known for his parody videos on YouTube, Bart Baker is a YouTuber whose massive fanbase of over 9 million YouTube subscribers has carried over to Musical.ly, Instagram, and other social channels, where he posts to millions of fans. Baker released his first album, Celebritease, in March 2017.
