An Inside Look At Megan Batoon's Success As A YouTuber, Dancer & Entrepreneur

Megan Batoon is a woman of many talents. The dancer and actress joined YouTube in late 2010 to post choreography videos and in the time since has expanded into cooking, vlogging, and an original merchandise line.

Just last month, Batoon partnered with Nike to promote its Nike Air VaporMax line. As she continues to make her mark on the online world, Batoon is doing so with grace, class, and humor. We sat down with the creator to discuss influencer marketing, her career to date, and more.

1. How did you develop an interest in dance and filmmaking, respectively?

I used to choreograph dances with my cousins as a pre-show for our Fourth of July celebrations for our whole extended family. I would watch NSYNC concert footage in slow motion and learn their choreography to practice.

I started taking it seriously and got into taking and later teaching classes in late high school. With filmmaking, I became fascinated with the aesthetics of it all. I loved composition and storytelling and being able to add personality to that sealed the deal for me.

2. Since starting on YouTube in 2010, how has your content style changed over time?

I think from production value to the quality of the content, the videos keep getting better. As I grow, so do they.

3. What do you love most about social media and online video?

I like that you can connect with people all around the world at any given time and be someone that people can relate to when they’re having a bad day, or to be someone to make their good days even better.

4. What advice do you wish you were given at the start of your career?

Don’t be afraid to say no.

5. Congratulations on your recent Nike partnership! Can you share something you learned from being a part of the campaign?

I learned that being loyal and staying true to who you are will always result in long-lasting and genuine partnerships.

6. What did you find most challenging about training for your first half marathon? Most surprising?

The thing I found to be most challenging was staying on a training schedule where the numbers of miles and amount of time were always increasing. It was much farther than I had ever previously run. The most surprising would have to be setting a new personal record every single time I ran. FELT GOOD.

7. What tips would you share for creating engaging sponsored content?

I think that the best would be to make it funny. That’s my favorite way to go about it.

But if that’s not really your thing then I would say not to lose yourself or your voice in the objective of the brand. If you’re funny - make it funny. If you’re personable - make it personable. Stay true to yourself with or without a brand.

8. What inspired you to create your own merchandise? Do you have plans to expand your online store?

I wanted to create my own merchandise because I wanted to create something that I would be proud to wear or use, or that I wished was already on the market.

YES! My ultimate goal is to have my own home goods/stationary/travel line in a worldwide retailer.

9. Lighting round:

Go-to post-run snack?

Almond butter and bananas.

What three items would you bring with you to a deserted island?

A book. A pillow. And a blanket. A yacht would be nice, too.

Recipe you’re most proud of mastering?

Paleo chocolate chip cookies.

Instagram or Snapchat Stories?

Instagram.

Favorite clean food?

Roasted Brussel Sprouts.

Favorite “cheat meal”?

Korean BBQ.

10. Any upcoming projects that your fans should know about?

Making more quality videos on youtube.com/meganbatoon. And definitely more rounds of merch on Meganbatoon.com
