Spotlight Interview With Lisbug, YouTuber Star
YouTuber Lisa Schwartz has over 1.9 million subscribers on her YouTube channel, Lisbug, and over 323 million views of her videos. Her videos range from song parodies of pop music like “Shake it Off” and “Wrecking Ball” (both eclipsing 12 million views each) to hilarious sketches of her trying kids food or beauty products. Her channel has been on YouTube for over nine years and she has since consistently provided her audience with funny and brash content. Alongside managing her YouTube channel, she has starred in several TV series, including voice acting for “Talking Tom and Friends”.
As a theater major native to Los Angeles, Lisa had a natural inclination to write and perform. Lisa first got started in her YouTube career after meeting the Fine Brothers, among other YouTubers, after an audition for a Comedy Central pilot. After starring in a couple of their videos, she decided to turn her hobby into a full-time job.

Mediakix: Where do you get the ideas for your content?
Lisbug: My weird brain. Usually in the shower. I also try my best to follow trends and pay attention to what my audience is fiending for. They are a savage group, you don't want to disappoint them. Trust me.
Your music videos are hilarious and so original! Why do you think comedy is the best fit to convey your lifestyle?
I got to college, wanting to be a musical theater actress. As soon as I heard everyone else sing, I realized, being the lead in my high school musical didn’t equate to a life career. So I quickly rerouted my vision and turned to comedy. Turned out, my fart jokes took me to the head of the class.
Along those lines, what kind of music to do you like to listen to? Anything you are thinking about parodying in the future?
I listen to 90’s station on Spotify. I don’t think a TLC Waterfall parody would get many views these days.
What kind of experience did you have prior to your YouTube channel that helped you create a diverse range of videos?
I worked a handful of crazy part time jobs, sometimes all at once. The people, places, and things I experienced, have given me ENDLESS material. And, the passion to work hard on YouTube, so I never have to do them again.
What do you aim to provide to your followers? What kinds of ideas do you want to convey?
Laughter. Happiness. A moment away from reality. And the realization that no one is perfect. Not even “internet stars”. I’m a fuck up. You’re a fuck up. We are all just little human fuckups trying our best.
How do you choose which brands to work with?
I’m not gonna push something on my audience I don’t genuinely believe in. So, you will never see me promoting diet pills or laxative teas. If I’m going to expose my audience to a brand deal, it’s gonna be something I use or think is worth them actually checking out. Like coffee, or poop spray. The necessities.
How do you keep up with your audience?
I don’t. They move at the speed of light. I just hang out tight and hope for the best.
What do you do when you aren’t working on your channel? Trick question?
I’m always working on my channel. But I squeeze in time with my friends and my pup. And the Bachelor in Paradise.
What three things would you bring with you to an island? Why?
My friends to keep me laughing. My puppy to keep me happy. And bug spray. I’m not getting that Zika, dude.
What is the best piece of advice that you were ever given?
Beauty is pain. Actually, that’s pretty fucked up. But I have a vivid memory of being told that. I think about it every time I get waxed. It’s not a lie.
Where do you envision yourself/ you channel in the coming years?
Thinking about it gives me anxiety. Let’s go one day at a time.
Anything else to add?
My feet fall asleep every time I use a squatty potty. Should I call a doctor about that? Seriously. It’s concerning.
