How did you get started blogging?
I couldn't resist!
We had just moved from the city to the country and bought an old farmhouse and renovated it from top to bottom. And I wanted to shout it out to the world. It just took a little time for everyone to listen!
What was your first blog post?
It was right before Christmas and I had the brilliant idea of posting about my Christmas decorations. I worked forever on the pictures and I was going to write a fancy post on how to use neutrals to decorate for the holidays.
And I totally forgot a tree skirt.
So the first post was literally....Hi! My name is KariAnne and sometimes I forget a tree skirt.
And the rest is history.
What was your breakout moment?
I don't think it was one overall thing. A feature here, a feature there and consistent posting every week. It was more like a snowball effect. Or a rolling stone. Oh wait....they don't gather any moss.
Have you ever written anything that’s gone viral?
A little random.
I wrote a post about these burlap curtains in my dining room.
How has blogging changed since you got started?
It's really grown.
And gotten much fancier.
I see lots more sponsored posts and beautiful photography. I mean, seriously. The photography is so pretty you feel like you are looking at magazines instead of blogs.
Where do you see blogging evolving?
I think you will see blogs emerge as brands.
And that's why It's so important to stay true to your voice and create a brand that truly represents your blog.
What’s on your list of daily reads?
It's a little eclectic.
How do you keep up with social media?
In one word.
I schedule everything using different scheduling tools and then I walk away.
I also have an amazing assistant who is an expert pinner.
If you had more time, what would you do more of?
I would pour a glass of sweet tea and add a lime and read until I had finished all the books on my shelf.
What advice would you give to a blogger just getting started?
Be true to who you are.
Don't compare yourself and your beginning to some one else's middle or latest chapter.
If you write the kind of blog you want to read, the readers will follow along.
What’s your advice to brands looking to build a campaign or partner with bloggers?
Create a campaign that's a win/win for everyone.
Outline exactly what you are looking for (BTW.....total aside, but Mediakix is awesome at doing this).
And call me.
