FameBit Review: YouTube, Instagram & Vine Influencer Marketing Platform

In an effort to provide a marketplace for brands enlisting social media and digital influencers , influencer marketing platforms including FameBit were created. FameBit in 2014 became one of the first self-service influencer marketing platforms featuring YouTube influencers. Now, FameBit has expanded their platform to several other social media channels including Twitter, Instagram, Vine, Tumblr, and Facebook. While influencer marketing platforms are adept at certain aspects of a viable influencer campaign, like most software applications, they have varied strengths, limitations, and drawbacks.

How Luxury Coffee Brand Nespresso Does Instagram Influencer Marketing

Nespresso recently launched their Instagram influencer marketing campaign to make their product line known to a younger generation of coffee drinkers. Until now, the Swiss brand's marketing strategy has been focused on its native Europe audience, where George Clooney has long acted as its spokesperson. Clooney recently appeared in a much-discussed TV ad spot (the first ever U.S. commercial to feature the A-list actor). To see whether brands prefer digital influencers or celebrities, check out our article here. In contrast to its European market, Nespresso's United States presence has been limited to higher-end department stores like Bloomingdale's and dedicated retail spaces in ritzy neighborhoods like Beverly Hills.

Similar to other prestige brands like BMW (see their latest Instagram influencer marketing campaign here), Nespresso's online push with popular social media app Instagram is intended to amplify the brand's reputation and increase engagement with millennial consumers while still maintaining its high-end appeal. Instagram is not only a top used social media app for many important demographics, but according to Forrester Research, Instagram has the best social engagement for brands by a significant margin.

7 Breakout YouTube Beauty Gurus Who Need To Be On Your Radar

It should be no surprise that YouTube changed the beauty industry in a big way—and vice versa. When Michelle Phan began posting beauty tutorials on the site in 2007, she was actually building an entirely new profession: the YouTube beauty guru. Phan is credited as one of the first YouTube influencers, and she has built a booming business empire out of the online beauty sphere she helped create. Though Phan's YouTube channel is still going strong, she now divides her time between her channel and other endeavors like ipsy, the beauty subscription service she runs.

There is, of course, no shortage of talent on YouTube. A whole new generation of top YouTube beauty gurus or beauty vloggers is following in her footsteps by contributing to YouTube's flourishing beauty community and creating some of the most popular YouTube beauty and makeup videos today.

Social Media Influencers Star In Mainstream Media

Social Media Influencers Break Into Mainstream Entertainment TV Movies

Social Media Influencers Are Now Being Cast In Major Mainstream Entertainment Roles

Recently, we wrote an article about how many mainstream/traditional entertainment brands are marketing to large online audiences by leveraging the reach of top YouTuber channels (e.g. Hunger Games with beauty guru Kandee Johnson, Selena Gomez on Lilly Singh's channel). With vast numbers of consumers turning to these social media influencers for advice on what's cool, movie studios are smartly teaming up with YouTube stars to spur interest in forthcoming blockbusters. YouTube's viewership is as large--and in certain demographics, larger--than traditional TV viewership. Collaborating with online creators to produce custom content is an effective way for these studios to generate buzz with a receptive audience of consumers.

More and more, we have seen that the opposite trend has also gained steam: now, many digital influencers are starring in mainstream entertainment media. As these social media stars oftentimes have farther-reaching engagement and better affinity than most "traditional" celebrities with today's audiences, the two media spheres have begun to merge. More viewers have come to expect the type free-reign, often quirky creativity that takes place online. In response, mainstream entertainment is developing more original, creator-driven and featured programming.

The times are changing: Social media stars have started crossing over into mainstream TV and film--and bringing their dollars with them. Here are a few notable examples of influencers making big-budget entertainment deals:

Don’t Hire Social Influencers Based On Followers

Dont Hire Social Influencers Based On Followers Following Count

3 Reasons Why Hiring Social Influencers Based On Followers Could Backfire

From the biggest traditional retailers to CPG brands and Hollywood entertainment companies, everyone is hiring social influencers as a major part of their social marketing and advertising campaigns. With the massive adoption of social media platforms/channels (e.g. Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat) and avoidance or decline of TV by many affluential demographics, both direct-response and brand marketers are discerning how best to allot their advertising spend in the upcoming new year.

While the vast majority of marketers are increasing ad spend to social and digital media, many marketers are still unsure about how to best identify, hire, and collaborate with social influencers. Similar to the history of display ads (rendered almost obsolete by the mainstream adoption of ad blockers), where marketers first evaluated campaigns based on cost-per-impression (CPM - possible reach, visibility), then cost-per-click (CPC - action-driven), and finally, performance (actual conversions, sign-ups, profitable action), the process of evaluating and hiring social influencers is experiencing a similar developmental path.

Read on to see why marketers need to make these following critical considerations beyond a social influencer's follower count to best maximize ROI and create an effective influencer marketing strategy prior to hiring (for our 10-step process guide, check out our white paper here):
